A Quirky, Playable Cassette Tape Machine for the Nord Stage 3.
The Taped pack was inspired by the first music I can remember listening to as a child- a cassette deck filled with kids song that we checked out from the library. Because the tape deck was cheap and the cassettes had been played a few too many times, there were glitches, pops, and a loud hissing noise saturating every song. I remember sitting for hours spellbound, listening to the songs over and over.
In this pack I tried to capture the lofi quality, with all of the wonderful quirks of tape in a playable format for musicians.
The Process
I went around for a month finding interesting sound sources, recording them using a stereo field recorder.
I then recorded all of the samples to a vintage hifi tape recorder from the mid 90’s that I borrowed from my dad (thanks, dad).
I then re-recorded the files into my studio setup, cleaning up the audio a bit and making adjustments.
I then spliced up everything and mapped it into the Nord Stage 3, using it’s built in synthesis engine to add the finishing touches.
The end result is a pack filled with bizarre lofi sounds, giving you the feeling of “playing” a polyphonic tape machine that’s been juiced with high quality effects.
72 Total Sounds.
Building off of the 10 core samples, I’ve designed a range of synth presets and programs to use, bringing the total file count in this pack to 72 items. Categorized synth presets allow you to quickly bring the sounds from this pack into any program with the twist of a knob, and the program files offer a complete patch for playing live. The core samples allow you to use the tones included to create your own custom patches, adding a whole new sonic palette to your keyboard.
