In the early 90’s, Roland* came up with a really intriguing idea. What would happen if you could somehow stack multiple detuned saw waves together into a single “super” saw wave?
Their first keyboard to ever use the new technology, the JP-8000, hit stores in 1997 and drastically changed modern music forever. Artists as varied as Jay-Z, The Killers, Rihanna, Coldplay, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and hundreds more would have a drastically different sound if it wasn’t for this groundbreaking keyboard.
Today marks the first time that you can get authentic samples from the JP-8000* in your Nord Stage 3.
The Process
• We did a deep dive into the JP-8000* synth engine, finding the things that make the keyboard special and sampling them through a combination of vintage and modern effects and preamps.
• Because of the complexity of supersaw waves, the sampling process utilized the largest samples we’ve ever made of a synthesizer.
•The final product has a unique combination of long sampled synth patches with “baked in” effects, while also utilizing the Nord Stage 3’s effects and synthesis engine for more hands on control and tweaking ability.
