We all love the feel, dirt, and personality of classic analog gear. While sampling classic synths is fun, there's something about tweaking a real synth that appeals to the geek inside us.

That's when we got the crazy idea. Would it be possible to design using just MainStage's built-in Alchemy synth plugin something that behaves and sounds just like a classic vintage synth?

Drawing from 15 years sound programming experience, we started working on it. Two months and countless sleepless nights later, and we present our first modeled classic synth, The Bruno Synth.

The Bruno Synth feels like a classic Juno 106* and Juno 60* had a love child together, and then slapped some vintage plate reverb, delay, and an arpeggiator in the crib instead of a rattle. It behaves just like its parents from a synth side, but has a few modern touches designed for the live and studio musician.

Here's what's included:

• 50 Alchemy presets in a dedicated MainStage concert, using only 100% stock MainStage plugins.

• 44 hands on and fully mappable controls to tweak every aspect of the original classics.

• Plate reverb and delay available on every patch.

• The long sought after vintage Chorus I and Chorus II from the originals, modeled to perfection and available on every patch.

• CPU saving mappings that automatically disable plugins when not in use.

The Making Of Bruno Synth

Testing, 1, 2. . .

We tested the Bruno Synth through a variety of outboard gear, including this 80’s era Tascam M-50 mixing console in our recording studio in Nashville, TN.

Wednesday morning, 3 AM.

The Bruno went through 6 versions. The first 4 versions we scrapped because of technical limitations, rebuilding from scratch each time and learning from our past pitfalls. That led for some awfully long nights in the studio.

Midi controllers everywhere.

We used a variety of midi controllers while adjusting the internal sounds, including everything from a Nord Stage 2 to a Axiom Air mini 32 controller. It worked great across all of them.

Design esthetics.

We spent a lot of time working on the way the program looked, because we have so much respect for the originals that we were inspired by. That included a few visits to the piano for time-tested design inspiration.

All the hands-on control of the originals.

With 44 mappable parameters, every major control of the originals is mapped to the onscreen parameters. It's possible to tweak almost every important aspect of the Bruno Synth without ever opening a plugin window.

We spent dozens of hours tweaking the filter sweeps, decay rates, and modulation, making it perform just like the classics did.

FX from out of this world.

With a fantastic modulating reverb unit, it's easy to create washy long tail reverbs for all or your synths. Bring the decay rate down low to get a tight gated effect for that 80's vibe.

Our delay is true stereo, with one delay line 1 step behind the other. This creates great space in the mix, while keeping the hands on control to just three knobs.

The Chorus I and II are the pride of this synth. It exactly emulates the Juno's chorus effect using just stock MainStage plugins, a long sought after effect by keyboardists.

100% compatible with Logic Pro X and other MainStage projects.

The Bruno Synth's patches are compatible with Logic Pro. Just drag and drop the .patch files into Logic Pro, and everything is automatically mapped.

We've even included 18 custom mappings in the Smart Control section, giving you hands on control in Logic as well as any other MainStage project with a Smart Control panel inserted.
